Clinton not only let Myers keep her job; he gave her a raise, a better office and took her from being a deputy assistant to special assistant. The President remarked later that Myers was a loyal aide and had worked very hard on the campaign trail. “In addition to doing a very difficult job,” Dee Dee states “every article that was written about me included some type of commentary about my hair or my clothes… I am not a fashion icon, I wish I was… but I am not” (YouTube 2010). Part of Leon Panetta’s complaint was “the message” was getting lost in Dee Dee’s hair or outfits. One Article, in Vanity Fair, called “The White House Beast” showcased her brilliant efforts to defuse an issue but muddled with insignificant details about her personal appearance to discredit her accomplishments. Even so, Dee Dee’s response was, “I handled it by ignoring it, maybe it wasn’t the right thing to do but that’s what I did.” A difficult job for anyone, made more difficult because of gender. Dee Dee used perseverance with a little ignorance to focus on the task at hand and represent the White
