Management Exercise Making decisions, especially decisions associated with business or management, can be very stressful and time consuming. There is rarely the one perfect solution that fully satisfies all parties or elements of a problem, yet utilizing rational decision making through the six key steps can reduce manager workload, and yield the best possible decision for any number of problems. Chuck Williams writes "Decision making is the process of choosing a solution from available alternatives. Rational decision making is a systematic process in which managers define problems, evaluate alternatives, and choose optimal solutions that provide maximum benefits to their organizations. " (Williams, 2015). There are six steps in making a decision; Define the Problem, Identify Decision Criteria, Weigh the Criteria, Generate Alternative Course of Action, Evaluate Each Alternative, and Compute the Optimal Decision. Utilizing these six steps helps ensure the problem is looked at analytically, and the best solution available is found and implemented. The decision I face was centered on my career. After all the alternatives were graded against the criteria, Rio Salado College was the clear choice to obtain a Associate of Arts in Applied Science in mid-level management. The curriculum is current, the classes have an accreditation that is recognized by the state universities, the on-line format allows me to complete school work while working a full time job, and it is very affordable. Furthermore, I have to decide on new computer hardware for work and I plan to implement this system to obtain the best possible
