Difference Between Routine And Non Routine Decision

Decisions can be broken down into two groups, routine and non-routine decisions. The decision type can be determined based on the way it is structured. A routine decision is a choice that is frequently made with a minimum of uncertainty and involve a standard procedure. This means that the decision maker has tools available to help guide them through the decision. These tools may include rules, policies, procedures, precedents, or computational techniques. This allows certain routine decisions to be delegated to subordinates. These tools may also be programmed for a computer to aid in making the decision. Based on the attitude towards risk we evaluate our options with a different approach. The maximax approach we choose the alternative with the highest possible outcome. The maximin approach is where we choose the alternative with the least bad outcome. The Hurwicz approach chooses the alternative between maximax and maximin. The minimax regret chooses the alternative with the smallest difference between the best and worst. Another related approach is game theory. In game theory the future states of nature and their probabilities are replaced by the decisions of a competitor.
