Deception In Ender's Game

In Ender’s game the computer game foreshadows how Enders character will be in the end of the book. Ender is playing a game and is stuck at a point until he thinks differently about the situation.“And instead of pushing his face into one of the liquids, he kicked one over, then the other, and dodged the Giant’s huge hands as the Giant shouted, ‘Cheater, cheater!’ He jumped at the Giant’s face . . . and began to dig in the Giant’s eye. . . . As the Giant screamed, Ender’s figure burrowed into the eye, climbed right in, burrowed in and in. The Giant fell over backward” (64). The book Ender's Game shows that breaking the rules isn’t always a bad thing and sometimes you have to break the rules to succeed. This quote is a breakthrough for Ender …show more content…
In fact, in an article titled “Liars and Cheats: Crossing the Lines of Childhood, Adulthood and Mortality in Ender’s Game,” written by Sara K. Day stated that “Ender’s ability to deceive can be understood, furthermore,as a learned behaviour, but his willingness to do so suggests a more inherent recognition of the power and usefulness of deception” (221). In this quote Sara is trying to state that deceiving a child to think that breaking the rules is the right thing to do is wrong. She thinks that we should not be having children and people believe something that is not right. Essentially, Ender knows that what he is doing is not right but will do whatever it takes to win. This ties back to the development of Ender’s character and how he learns that breaking the rules is what you have to do to …show more content…
This then shows the part of when Ender finally realizes it and has to accept it. “He stepped on the head of the snake and crushed it under his foot… And in the mirror he saw a face that he easily recognized. It was Peter, with blood dripping down his chin and a snake’s tail protruding from a corner of his mouth” (116). This quote shows that in the beginning of the game Ender is becoming manipulated. Ender has been manipulated multiple times throughout the book by adults, but never to this extreme as doing it right in front of him. The ending of the book shows that Ender has a lot of self evaluating to do and if it will affect him or not. The mirror makes him realize his true colors and now he has to face them. How he handles this will be up to

He recently drew the conclusion that he was like Peter. He tries to make himself feel better by saying things like, “it was self-defense.” This was another case of harming others, in order to save himself. This represents Ender being violent to save himself, but not in a selfish way. He had let Peter win “bugger vs alien” and helped the alien find a place to live.…

However, realizing that he is responsible does not excuse his actions or wash the blood of millions from his hands. Other of Ender’s supporters use the defense that Ender did not know he was taking real lives. The counter argument is this: Ender was bred and trained to calculate every possible outcome, to notice every detail and plan accordingly for every situation which he could be put in. To make the allegation that Ender did not suspect his superiors of manipulating him is foolish. Card even attempted to make a case for Ender’s innocence: “Genocide was the result of not understanding the effect on the buggers of the hive queen”…

What would happen if an alien species attacked Earth 50 years ago, and we managed to fight them off temporarily? The book “Ender’s Game,” by Orson Scott Card, describes exactly that. The story is about a boy named Ender in those times, and one of the most significant decisions that he makes throughout the book is agreeing to train in battle school because he would protect Valentine, get away from Peter, and he was literally born for it. The book starts out when Ender is 6 years old, and he goes to school like everyone else.…
