Decent Headshot Research Paper

Improved Essays
A decent headshot portrays confidence, it catches the person in their natural state and is taken by a photographer who makes that person feel comfortable. Also, it reveals a person's personality and sense of style. A poor headshot looks like it was taken with an iPhone at the beach during a vacation or at a local bar. Over preparation for a photo session with plenty of makeup and over-styled hair is not acceptable as a professional headshot. This article shares Grand Lens Photography's 5 tips on preparing for a headshot.

1) What To Wear: Men

For professional headshots, always wear a collared button down with a suit that is preferably a classic dark color, such as navy blue or gray and does not clump together when sitting. Also,

An ostentatious watch or dangly earrings could come across as over-the-top. Jewelry should be subtle and match with your ensemble so that it does not diminish the overall appearance of the photo. Jewelry should be removed if it seems to be more noticeable than the face. It is highly recommended to bring a pair of glasses without the lens, so glare does not appear in the photo.

5) Sleep

Sleep, an essential for outstanding health and well-being, is often overlooked. Yet millions of people do not get enough sleep and suffer from lack of sleep. Get plenty of rest the night before the photo session. The last thing anyone wants for their headshot is to look tired. A healthy night's sleep will help the eyes and face appear relaxed.

No need to worry about how you position yourself; the photographer will give proper direction during the photo session. However, if there is a particular look you aspire to achieve, bring samples of it with you so that the photographer can understand the idea of the style you are searching for.
