Envision a young, high school student walking through a hall, clinging to the walls, determined to go unnoticed by the swarms of people walking by. The wallflower. Me. Freshman year I was content with going through my High School career this way; that was until I listened to a presentation about joining the school’s business and marketing club, DECA. Something seemed intriguing about the club so I convinced my friend to join with me and become my partner. After showing up to the first meeting, the initial excitement started to wear off as I realized what it entailed was the complete opposite of what the wallflower would do. I was not only to take a written test but also compete and perform a role play. This involved communicating my ideas to …show more content…
My sophomore year I came back ready as I'd ever been. As a result of the time we spent studying and practicing, my partner and I placed in the top 3 in our area not only that year, but also for the next two years. Seeing how I was enjoying participating in the committees and activities, I decided to become and officer in which I would focus on chapter relations, school outreach, and community service. During my reign as an officer, we were able to successfully qualify for nationals as a chapter. Though I dedicated much of my time to leading and competing within DECA, my involvement didn't stop with just this one club. I continued to join others including Key Club and National Honors Society in which I have helped with school beautification and volunteered with the youth and the elderly. If it hadn’t been for DECA, I wouldn’t have realized my full potential. I truly realized that I am capable of whatever I wish to accomplish and to embrace the opportunities I’m given. I am no longer the student unwilling to give class presentations or contribute ideas in front of others; I am now the student willing to organize different projects, lead my peers, and learn from every

I was an ambitious sophomore in every way I could be, and this year I have taken my role as Vice President very seriously. I was able to work closely with the other officers to coordinate events and direct the meetings, both crucial aspects of our chapter’s success. Through my DECA experience thus far, I have realized that it is not just a club, and what we do in it does not just stay with us in high school. DECA has been instrumental in my life and I have been enamored of it so…

Upon enrolling in high school I realized that I could no longer put an average effort into easy class work and be rewarded with academic satisfaction. After joining the honors course along with band and the FFA, it was revealed to me that high school was a different culture than middle school. I quickly discovered that hard work would be required to be successful in everything I will ever do. Band demanded countless hours of practice, but I ultimately gained first chair in the top band, as well as squad leader over the trumpet section. Like band, the FFA required hours of dedication, but I distinguished myself from other FFA members.…

It all started in senior year of high school, a moment where, because of my lack of effort at certain times of my teenage life, I was left with very few options regarding where I could go pursue my education after graduating high school. It is important to emphasize that although I wasn’t sure what exactly I was capable of, I was sure that I was capable of great things and high school failed to inspire me to become the best person I could be. I was disoriented yet self-assured. Luckily, thanks to some thoughtful people who guided me in the right moment, I was able to get in to the Macklin Business Institute at Montgomery College and I was given the opportunity to try out and get recruited to play for MC soccer team. The experiences that followed…

Leeds Let’s Get Active (LLGA) provides the Leeds population with an opportunity to address health inequalities through increasing participation rates in sport and physical activity amongst the least active people in Leeds. LLGA allows Leeds to showcase best practice nationally as well as regionally and contributes significantly to Leeds becoming the most active big city in England. The NHS (2012) state that physical inactivity is a significant health risk as it is found to be outweighed by smoking, causing many more deaths per year. Standing under the familiar radiant heat, the gentle glow on my skin reminded me of the many summers I spent being complacent in Washington. However, surrounding me were kids from numerous families who knew nothing about complacency. They were always moving, always multitasking, and always working; I wondered how migrant farm worker families coped with such a restless lifestyle compared to mine. For the past four summers, I traveled with the St. Anthony Parish youth group on mission trips. Most recently, I spent the last two summers in Bellingham serving the migrant farm worker communities through the Agape Mission program.…

I went to elementary and middle school in Monroe City, before transferring to South Shelby my freshman year. That was the best decision I’ve made so far in my life. At first, I was worried. I didn’t think that any high school could be so friendly that they didn’t actually need locks on the lockers. But, after my mom talked to the cheerleading coach at the time, I realized that maybe this school is somewhat nice.…

To be honest, I have few memories of Mr. Cannarozzi. He was never my teacher, never someone I had grown close too. Still, the memory I have of our only interaction showed that he had a lasting and positive impact on everyone, even those he did not know. I remember running into Lenox, excited to get to Mrs. McCallum’s class. I had reached the very last step and went to grab the heavy, fire-resistant door, but had made the mistake of having my little foot to close.…

One of my lifetime goals is to become an anesthesiologist. I understand that it takes many years of schooling, hours of studying, and excellent time management to accomplish. This is my fourth year of being apart of the Weslaco East High School Wildcat Regiment but I have been a band member for nearly seven years. I have learned that being apart of a group activity has enabled me how to work well with others, discipline, responsibility, leadership, multitasking, communication skills, and shown me how to appreciate my peers and directors and treat them with the utmost respect. Being in band has also taught me that it is not just one person that succeeds a particular goal, it is an entire group that spends hours and hours working together as…
