Because of her interest in our family’s history, I decided to interview my older cousin Kathleen Donahoe. Even though she’s young, I thought she would be the biggest help with this project because she would actually enjoy answering my questions and she is very knowledgeable on the subject. I know typically a grandparent is interviewed, however, my grandma and grandpa were not first-generation immigrants from Czechoslovakia or Ireland, so I decided Kathleen would be a better source of information. In general she’s a history buff which is why she has a history degree and works as an archivist for the University of Pittsburgh. She is always going through our grandparent’s attic looking at photos and old letters, and she has done a lot of research into our ancestors.…

Family Migration Growing up in New York, in my earlier years, I always wondered why my family was so distant. My family moved around a lot, so I expected this may have been the reason. I was always curious why everyone just didn 't live close together on one block, or why my aunt had to fly so far just to visit a few times a year. I would always ask My grandmother, Ethel Regina Walker, these questions, though she never seems to enjoy dredging up her past or where she might have lived as a young kid. I wasn 't even aware of, except for uncle Kenny, who her siblings were.…

Eric Robinson, I learned that my professional, academic, and personal experiences are a great fit for the School Psychology program. The lack of ethnic diversity amongst School Psychologists often creates a barrier between psychologist and client, as minority students are likely to have negative race-related experiences that hinder their ability to focus academically. The South Asian culture in which I was brought up in shuns mental disabilities as temporary and unreal. This led to my understanding that minorities are often misunderstood as culture plays an important role in an individual’s academic success. My personal understanding as a minority myself allows me to connect with children and their families on a deeper level making me an asset to Baylor’s Costa Rica study abroad opportunity, as well as other minority students I work with in the long…
