Discussion Question 1: Men and women certainly have different listening styles. While linguist Deborah Tannen claims that the differences in listening style are due to men and women being brought up in different cultures, communication scholar Kathryn Dindia suggests that men and women are raised in the same culture, but their listening differences result from being told how different they are. I agree with Dindia’ claim because many men and women can share a lot of cultural similarities and still listen very differently. For example, two siblings (brother and sister) can be raised in the same home with the same parents, same religious beliefs, political views, etc. and still have different listening styles.
