Lady Deborah Moody was born on April 3, 1586 at Avebury, Wiltshire, England. Her parents were Walter Dunch and Deborah Pilkington. Deborah had a brother named William and three sisters whose names were Ruth, Mary, and Anne. She was the youngest of the five children. Walter was a lawyer and member of parliament, therefore the family was wealthy, religious, and had strong political views. Deborah was also well educated. In 1606, she married Henry Moody. He later became Sir Henry Moody when he became a baronetcy and from his title, she received hers and became Lady Deborah Moody. The couple had two children.
