In the article “ The Impact of Celebrities” by Deborah King, she addresses the topic of how we as a society are obsessed with celebrity gossip or the negative influences. King addresses that society is “ obsessed with celebrities” because we want to see them fail. For example, Dr. Charlotte De Backer carried out a study to try to explain why we are so obsessed with celebrities . However, our society is more captivated, by celebrities who are bad role models. Additionally, the media spreads gossip about celebrities bad behavior. For example Winona Ryder had been arrested and convicted for shoplifting”. On the contrary, there are celebrities that are good role models with a kind heart. For example Angelina Jolie, she’s been a spokeswoman about the living conditions in children living in third world countries. Informing that celebrity obsession not also gives us something to talk about but also gives us gossip. For example “I rather bond with someone over the latest antics of celebrities than all tho their dark topics in the news” (Palmer). This means that us the audience would rather talk and have in common opinions about celebrities. This matters because people would have more in common in each other, either way expressing themselves in a positive way or in a negative way. This is because “we need to have an escape from the humdrum of everything life” (paragraph 6). This shows that we want to escape our boring lives, meaning to find out what is happening in other’s lives from comparing comparing ours to others. This matters because we want to feel like how others feel in their lives without including our own. All of this has proven that celebrity obsession is healthy by giving us something to talk
