Should Death Penalty Be Abolished Persuasive Essay

Today, I'm going to convince you that the death penalty (Capital Punishment) should be abolished. This subject became important to me when I was in high school. Timothy McVeigh had bombed the Oklahoma City federal offices and killed more than 100 people. June 11, 2011 he was put to death by lethal injection in Indiana. Most of you might remember his name. I remember the parents and loved ones of his victims speaking out that lethal injection wasn't a tough enough punishment. On BBC news, many of the victims' loved ones spoke out about their grief. This was very disturbing to me. Many were bitter that his punishment was not more severe. I remember saying to myself "by wanting or wishing someone who killed my loved one to die in a certain way, wouldn't that also make me a murder?". Timothy McVeigh's execution was aired on TV and I remember the victims' families happy and smiling while watching through a window.

Azim Khamisa, a father who forgave his son's killer, a 14 years-old gang member, wrote a book about "The Three Milestones You Should Go Through Before Forgiving Someone". It's a good book and I would suggest reading it. In his book, Azim Khamisa writes "my son was a 14 years old gang member's victim the 14 years old gang member was a victim of society and we created that". What a powerful statement!!! He talked about making the trip once a month to visit his son's killer and said "I forgive him, this 14 years old kid without a father. I will be his father.". He makes the trip on holidays and birthdays. You can watch his interview on 60 Minutes where he starts by saying "I am Azim Khamisa. I forgive my son's killer and I am a close friend to him." Imagine the courage this father

A murderer should not be able to roam the streets and perhaps commit another crime. The victims of horrible crimes should have a breathe of relief that the criminal is out of this world. Many who are not victims believe this, because they feel vengeful. They see stories on the news, or the papers, and they wonder why would someone do something so harmful as murdering an innocent. Many victims, such as Mark Klaas, believe the death penalty is a way of helping the victims move on.…

This Article is Brad J. Bushman’s opinion on why the Death Penalty should be “killed” off. Bushman believes the Death Penalty is “ deeply flawed” because of the process people go through for the Death Penalty. He states that the system is flawed mostly because it “models the behavior it seeks to prevent.” He disagrees with the fact that the government can kill people without punishment but people can not kill people without the same rights. He also states that it discriminates against poor people.…

Death Penalty Of 900 people on death row in California since 1978, only 13 of them were executed. These executions still served a purpose because the death penalty deters crime. Even so, these are very lengthy delays, which is why the death penalty should not be gone, but it needs to be changed to be more efficient. Although some people believe the death penalty may cause innocent people to be executed, the death penalty should remain in place because it deters crime, it costs less than life in prison, and the system could be made to work better.…

I have never supported the death penalty. I have yet to meet a person who feels the same way that I do about this, which is still to this day hard for me to wrap my mind around because to me, it seems so obviously wrong. Killing is wrong.
