In the tragedy Romeo and Juliet written by Shakespeare, there were many factors that contributed to the untimely deaths. However the main contributing factor to their deaths was the long lasting family feud and fate itself. I say this for a number of reasons, murder, payback murder, and fate.
The feud had to do with the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. I say this because towards the middle of the tragedy, Tybalt, a man of great hate for the Montagues, killed Mercutio, a relative of the prince and a friend of Romeo.Tybalt killed Mercutio because he was a Montague. When Tybalt killed Mercutio this, as stated earlier, enrages Romeo. This led to Romeo killing Tybalt in a sword fight. Due to earlier fights between the Capulets and the Montagues the price stated,” If you ever disturb our streets again, your lives shall pay the forfeit of the peace.” (Shakespeare 791). This means that Romeo would be punished. He gets let off easy when he got the punishment of being banished from his town and can’t see Juliet anymore. This starts the main problems.
Fate also had a role to play in Romeo’s and Juliet's deaths when frares plan to get them together went south. After Romeo was banished a plan was made to get Romeo and juliet together. A message was sent by Friar to Romeo so he would know the plan. But fate had it that the plague was going to run rampant at the exact time the message was to be delivered. “ Where the infectious pestilence did reign”( Shakespeare 898) Because the message was stopped Romeo didn’t know the plan. Because of this romeo killed himself. Juliet soon found Romeo dead so she in return killed herself.
As you can tell from the evidence provided more than one thing caused Romeo and Juliet’S untimely death. With the mixture of fate and a long lasting family feud, death was inevitable. Their deaths were just a tragedy that couldn’t have been
