In the time following Diana’s death, there was speculation over the royal family and how they were -- or were not -- dealing with their grief. Most of the criticism was aimed at the queen for her actions and decisions following the death of her ex-daughter-in-law. Her first criticism happened in the hours after William and Henry discovered their mother’s death: she had them go to church. However, it is evident that they were not forced because “They wanted to go to church. If you are a Christian and your mother has been killed, it is a comfort going to church” (Alderson). The next large criticism was that the Union Jack had not been flown at half mast. This statement is false. The Union Jack was flown at half mast during the funeral ceremony …show more content…
Monarchy rules that had been in place for hundreds of years were broken for Diana: the queen did care, just not in the way that the average person would have hoped. As for Prince Charles, the blame that he took for Diana’s death was illegitimate. The royal couple had divorced shortly over a year before the tragic accident in Paris after a series of affairs, lies, and unhappiness. The claims against Charles say that if the couple would have still been married, that Diana would still be alive. However, an unhappy marriage is an atrocious scenario to experience: Diana had bulimia and depression over stresses from their deceitful marriage and it is wrong of people to wish that she would have continued to endure the monstrosities of the relationship. In addition, the family had to consider the boys. If the family had killed the princess, they would not have been so considerate to the young princes. After all, what parent wants to tell their children that their mother is dead? Charles was the one that had to reveal the news of Diana’s passing to their boys, and the whole family needed to console them to help them through the difficult
