You know that I don’t like going out…” I said in fear and worry. “Don’t worry! I am sure it will help you. Now follow me!” she said and dragged me out of the house and into her car to go to the flower shop. We drove up to the flower shop called Petals and Pennies. As Maize and I walked into the shop, all I could smell is the beautiful scent of roses and pollen. Maize walked up to the clerk and talked to her. Introduction In her presentation of theological economy, namely, the economy of grace, Kathryn Tanner investigates the practical implications of her incarnational dogmatic enterprise. I concur with Tanner’s claim of the urgent need of an economy of grace as I take into account the ever-growing gap of wealth between the rich and the poor as well as the Global North and the Global South. Furthermore, as George Harvey rightly diagnoses, it seems to be the unbridled desire for private possession in the capitalist market that resulted in the housing bubble, which eventually “destroyed the capacity for many to acquire and sustain their access to housing use values.” (George Harvey, 21).…

I remember when I had first bought the Marigold seeds, I was looking at the picture on the seed packet examining the beautiful elegant flowers. I rushed home, I ripped open the packet and started to dig little holes in my yard for my new flowers. Days later, I watched them grow as if they were my own children; I watched them become vibrant and full of life. They had given me the hope and happiness I lost when the Great Depression hit. They had lit up my dull and boring yard and made my days brighter.…

In The Flowers by Alice Walker, Myop’s innocence is emphasized by many literary devices, such as, symbolism, metaphor, hyperbole, onomatopoeia, tone, and imagery. Walker named the main character, Myop on purpose as it is short for myopia, which is the scientific term for, nearsightedness. This is an example of symbolism because in most parts of the story, Myop is a very innocent and pure girl, and is not able to see farther than the idealistic beauty of her childhood. To Myop, the harvesting of crops “[makes] each day a golden surprise” (Walker, 1).…
