When he gets caught with the hose he bought to poison himself in the car, he lied about why he had it in the first place. Willey never realizes that he can’t live in the past and still move on in life. He continues not only bringing up the past, but interjecting the situations that took place then and bringing them into the present situation. With Uncle Ben coming and going in the play and every time Willy is reminded that of how much he wants to be like Ben, but is met with the feeling of failure. Miller character flaws are woven into the fabric of the play Death of a Salesman with Willy’s character. Willey stubbornness and pride issues are tremendous flaws that are viral through out the play, his misconstrued ideas of success not only harm him, but his family suffers with the poor qualities being seen by his children and then consequently passed down to them.
