Fifty Shades of Grey meets Damien in the sexy, spine-tingling thriller Death Is My BFF. Eighteen-year-old Author, Katarina E. Tonks, paints a vivid tale of Death personified and a young girl ironically dubbed Faith.
“For the first time, you will be able to put a face to both Death, and the Devil. For the first time, the villain might win” (“Summary,” par. 2). Katarina was fourteen when she penned the first copy of Death Is My BFF in 2011. She first put her story on Wattpad, an online storytelling community where users can publish their works to be critiqued by like-minded peers, under the screen name Katrocks247. Met with overwhelming positivity and winning a Watty, Wattpad’s most prestigious, she decided to publish her work using Amazon’s Self-Publishing, a program for novelist to sell copies of their books without having to go through publisher. Unfortunately, she only sold a handful of copies, so she took it down and got back to work on revising her book.A few years later in the year 2014, the new and improved DISMBFF was finally completed. Now with over 2,000 copies on pre-order and the

She is instantly sought out by Angels and Demons alike. I find the symbolism in the book top-notch ,Faith is an allusion to mankind and our daily struggle in the internal battle of good versus evil. She is constantly tempted by a man who is quite literally hotter than hell. The dynamic between Faith and Death is very similar to Dr. Harleen Quinzel and ,infamous D.C villain, The Joker in the aspect that Death is slowly trying to drive Faith over the brink of insanity both mentally and sexually. Death is persistent in his need to have Faith sign her soul way to him, but Faith isn’t ready for huge commitment that comes along with being nothing but a toy for the Grim Reaper’s sadistic pleasure. But very soon Faith begins to confuse pain with pleasure, as she soon finds her only ally is her biggest

Roger Chillingworth is the major blockade inhibiting Hester Prynne from discovering contentment in her life. Initially, it is effortless to sympathize with the old man, seeing as the first thing he witnesses when he arrives in Boston is his duplicitous wife on the scaffold. He is first described as scholarly, yet deformed, “There was a remarkable intelligence in his features…a seemingly careless arrangement of his heterogeneous garb, he had endeavored to conceal or abate the peculiarity…one of this man’s shoulders rose higher than the other.” (Page 67). Originally, Chillingworth is not seeking vengeance on Hester, in fact, he blames both himself and Hester for Hester’s infidelity.…

In My Soul is Rested, Raines writes, from the words of Franklin McCain, “… I felt as though the manhood of a number of other black persons had been restored and had gotten some respect from just that one day. The movement started out as a movement of nonviolence and a Christian movement… It was a movement that was seeking justice more than anything else and not a movement to start a war… We knew that probably the most powerful and potent weapon that people have literally no defense for love, kindness. That is, whip the enemy with something he doesn’t understand…”…

The Devil has been portrayed in thousands of stories, shows and movies. How this character appears varies from story to story. Some show the Devil as a red man with horns, others as a normal person. “Young Goodman Brown”, which portrays the Devil as the later, is about how everyone is sinful, while “The Man in the Black Suit”, which portrays the Devil as more of the former, is about how the Devil comes for us all. While both “Young Goodman Brown” and “The Man in the Black Suit” show the danger of Devil like figures, they both have different risks involved, demonstrating that stories with similar antagonists can still have very different themes.…

This portrayal of Satan as someone who has many layers and complexities is further shown through his entrance into the poem. He is seen crying for his fallen angels. This can be taken as another humanlike quality assigned to Satan. It seems to be a genuine emotion from the fallen angel. The Anti-Satanist argument against this passage is that angels were not supposed to cry (Danielson 167).…
