Death In Dunblane Research Paper

A terrible tragedy happened on March 13th, 1996 at an elementary school in Dunblane, Scotland. At approximately 9:25 A.M. Mr. Thomas Hamilton entered the gymnasium of Dunblane Primary School, where he took the lives of sixteen innocent souls of the ages five and six along with their teacher.( Jackson and Bruton) Dunblane, Scotland wasn’t known for this type of crime. According to the news article “Death in Dunblane” this town’s definition of crime was stealing someone’s garden ornament. In that small town no one could imagine anything like this happening. There were warning signs that would have prevented this tragedy from occurring. The community should be at fault for overlooking the signs he gave. It all started when Mr. Thomas Hamilton, …show more content…
Silence, no noise was made nothing but lifeless bodies, shoes, and blood puddles. The principle released a statement saying “The scene that met us in the hall was just utterly appalling and is one’s worst nightmare” (Jackson and Bruton). Many children couldn’t cope with the feeling of blood being everywhere, the surviving children were distraught. They weren’t old enough to know what was happening. One student was sitting on the floor pointing to his bullet wound in his arm, some of the kids looked as if they wanted an explanation on why this happened to them. Many families were struck by this tragedy to hear that their loved one wasn’t returning home from school, they wish it was all a dream; which had turned into a nightmare. Parents were called in one by one to pick up the surviving kids. “It was agony” said the woman who was mourning the loss of her friend’s child. “We stood in the cold from about ten thirty to twelve thirty” says the lady who found out that her daughter wasn’t hurt during this time of tragedy (Pederson and Gibb). Many parents weren’t as lucky as Mrs. Beverly Bernie, whose child missed the whole …show more content…
After that letter was written to the news, they should have made a public service announcement saying that Mr. Hamilton was armed, and dangerous so that the kids could’ve been hidden. They didn’t take Mr. Hamilton serious at all. If I had reasonable doubt that someone was a pervert I would try my best to report it so he could be far away from kids as much as he can. Since he was harm to children, such as being obsessed with them or trying to lure them into his home and everyone knew about it, as soon as they seen him coming towards the school the authorities should’ve been called. Many lives would have been saved if people used their common senses. This also could have been prevented by not judging someone based off of their past, and what they’ve encountered. I’m not saying he was right for taking those innocent souls, but people get fed up and handle situations the best way they know how, and shooting up a school was in his best interest. Poking around in other people’s past can cause them to want to do anything for it to stop. Perhaps Mr. Hamilton felt like the kids were causing the town to have this type of hate against him, so he ended their life and his. Another way of preventing this was being able to have control over guns. In “The Lost Children” the authors stated that Mr. Hamilton

Introduction Almost 20 years ago, two high school students altered the public school environment as we knew it at that time. Granted, there were plenty of other incidents involving guns and school grounds, but none on this massive level. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold took the time to journal and plot the murders of their peers and teachers at Columbine High School in April 1999. The journals that were left behind tell just some of what they were experiencing; but no one could quite figure out the motive for the mass murder. Then there were no one to explain as both Harris and Klebold took their own lives after they were finished.…

had they seen what their children had become, they would have had them incarcerated or committed, Harris and Klebold's fault, they were psychopathic, psychotic killers who twisted and resisted every attempt to help or to stop them, and basically society’s fault all together, had the teenagers’ minds not been filled with violent images, they would have been peaceful. “Face reality. Bullies, psychopaths and killers are like the weather – they’ve always been with us and always will be. We can’t change the weather any more than we can completely prevent massacres and tragedies.” I completely agree with him on this because not only one of these topics is to blame for all of this.…
