Personal Narrative: My Death Conversation

Improved Essays
“There are two things in life you can be sure of...death and taxes.” While both are realities we may try to avoid, many people never give much thought to the details, both financially and socially, of what happens when we die.

Death is and will always be the last thing that I would talk about. When the topic of death tries to surface, I always change the subject and start a new conversation. Talking about death is very depressing and I am actually getting anxiety typing this but I guess now is the time for me to face my fears of ‘the death conversation’ and to plan my funeral.

Now that I am thinking about…. My death… I would not want to have a painful, torturous death. When it is my time to rest in peace, I would much rather either go in my sleep after i have lived a successful, happy life or go out quick and easy. What would I want to happen to my corpse? I doubt that I would want to be six feet under ground while my body is decomposing at the same being eaten by maggots. I want to be cremated and have my ashes split into 16 small urns. Now the reason I say sixteen urns is because I have thirteen brothers and sisters, my mother, my father plus my significant other - if I am married.

All together it will cost $239.84 for the urns. The prices for a cremation range. I could go with a cheap cremation that will cost about $539 in NYC or an expensive cremation that will cost over $700. Because I like to save money, I would probably go with the $539 cremation

I don’t really have ten reasons that I will die alone, but I read that if you put a number in your post title you get more hits. Sorry for the deception, but since you are already here please read on. I may not have ten reason that I will die alone, but I firmly believe they will find me one day, lazy-boy in the recline position, a spilled glass of scotch by my side (hope it’s the cheap stuff; hate to waste anything good), my NETFLIX queue empty, and a cat sniffing at my rotting corpse (wait, I don’t have a cat – how did he get in here?) It may not work out exactly like that, perhaps I will go quietly in my sleep with family at my side, but I’m pretty sure I won’t leave a second wife behind as a widow.…

I would choose to live to be a hundred and one years old, and die surrounded by my friends and family through human euthanasia. In Chapter 2 of our textbook, Death and Dying, Life and Living, it is noted that the most common causes of death in our society are degenerative and cerebrovascular diseases, and accidents (particularly automobile related). In Chapter 3 of our textbook, death-related anxiety is a central theme, focusing on different fears and concerns most have about their own dying. This includes a long, difficult, painful death, in an unfamiliar institution cared for by strangers who might not respect one’s personal wishes.…
