Friends that encourage you to follow your passion and friends that encourage you to leave your comfort zone, but are protective enough to say, ‘make good choices’ before you get on on a new adventure.

You will discover that school and grades is everything. It is not so much what you are learning, but the work ethic that you learn from your dedication to school that keeps you moving forward and rising to the top; and ultimately allows you to enjoy life to its fullest.

Mansa Musa was one of the most wealthy leaders in all the world with over 600 billion dollars in gold, with great power over all his citizens, and to extend this he went on his hajj to show people how rich and powerful he was. Mansa Musa did not go on his hajj just for religious reasons he also went on the hajj to show the people of Africa how wealthy and powerful he was. One of the documents that show that why he didn't just go for religious reasons is document A, where it shows all the supplies he brought on his trip. It shows that he brought over 24,000 pounds of gold for alms giving, gifts, salaries, and supplies, even though he would have used the gold for these purposes, he would have probably only have used almost half of the gold for those purposes. Instead he would use it to give out to all the citizens of egypt and other towns and villages, and this is true because he didn't have any other remaining gold and if it was a religious journey he wouldn't bring 24,000 pound of gold to give out to all the people and stop his religious journey.…

Kohn’s article “The Case against Grades” (Kohn, 2011) effectively captures the anxiety that most students have about grades. “In fact, students would be a lot better off without either of these relics from a less enlightened age” (Kohn, 2011) Kohn writes. I agree with Kohn’s position in this article because there were many days in high school where I remember skipping due to the fact that I didn’t fully understand what was being taught to me. I, in turn, grew anxious about not being good enough and started failing.…

One of the most important mindsets to have before stepping out on the field hockey field, or any field for that matter, is to understand what it is to persevere. To understand what it means to persevere is to understand that you can find the strength to pick yourself up in the last two minutes of the game, put in your best work, and score the winning goal as the buzzer sounds. I always strive to persevere with every minute left in the game and I carry that same mindset off the field. Perseverance is a core value that I take with me in every aspect of my life whether it be sports, school, or helping others.…

Waking up before the sun on the first day of high school, I pictured myself walking into heaven. No more jail-like school uniforms that I’ve been stuck with since kindergarten, overly handsome varsity athletes everywhere, popular cliques that all the dorks -like myself-looked up to, and freedom. Freedom from being treated like a baby. I was practically grown. At least that is what I thought; it was only the beginning.…
