Deanna's Story: Avalanche Search And Rescue Team

Deanna sipped her morning hot chocolate in quiet contemplation. She was curled up on a comfy couch in front of the large fireplace that warmed the common room of the ski resort. It was the quintessential resort filled with furs and taxidermied animal heads galore. Not to mention plenty of lacquered wood and chandeliers made of antlers. If one were to observe her they would think she was the model of comfort and ease. However, that was not the case; not at all. She was comfortable, sure there is comfort in being around familiar settings, but she was not at ease. Not like she expected any different of late. Herald usually did what he wanted and got what he wanted. Though, that is what made him such a good businessman. No matter the argument he always somehow made the other person want to do anything he suggested. Although Deanna has worked for the Avalanche Search and Rescue Team for the last seven years, where they live in Alaska, Herald's work never took him to the ski lodge so he wanted to experience what she did all day; that is the excuse he gave her. She very much had her doubts on that reasoning, seeing as two of his work buddies happened to book this ski vacation the same time he decided it was time to go on a trip. She remembered a time when she was the one person Herald couldn't strong arm, she would stand toe to toe and get her way; or at least made him work to get his way. And he was one of the few men that she knew that actually respected her, not look at her just as a pretty little woman but, as an equally intelligent person.
