Dean Smith On February 28, 1931 in Emporia, Kansas only the best college basketball coach is born. ”There is a point in every contest when sitting on the sidelines is not an option.”- said Dean Smith a former coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels.
Dean’s family settled in Kansas and started a farm. As a child Dean was raised in a Christian household. Mr.Smith was a teacher and a coach for football, basketball, and track. Dean went to the amazing University of Kansas. Dean became a basketball coach for North Carolina in 1962. Dean recruited Hall of Fame athlete Michael Jordan in 1985. Dean caused a shot clock to be added because of a play called four corners. Dean coached for almost 40 years.
He won two national championships
