Deadpool: An Archetypal Hero

The Invincible Experiment My first encounter with Deadpool was when I saw the 2016 movie. I was ultimately drawn to pick this character because I enjoyed his sense of humor. I was also intrigued by his background story and the fact that he is invincible is pretty incredible. I find Deadpool’s character to be interesting, humorous and daring. Deadpool is an Archetypal Hero because he shows the willingness to help people and truly win his own battle that he is fighting. A modern day hero is often portrayed as someone who has a “normal life” but still makes time to go above and beyond. A hero in myths is often seen as only this person who is a hero all the time, but a modern day hero and a mythological hero are quite similar in the way of their actions. According to Encyclopedia Britannica, myths are defined as partly traditional, mostly unknown, cultural icons, extraordinary events or circumstances (Par. 1). Myths are important because they explain the unexplainable of early civilizations. Most heroes or heroic characters have a purpose when created, this is called an Archetypal Hero or the Hero’s Journey. Deadpool is better known as this immortal, invincible superhero, but in fact he’s much more. According to “Everything you need to know about Deadpool” he grew up with abusive parents, then ran away. As he got older he was diagnosed with cancer, this caused him to leave his girlfriend without a word. Later on he gets an offer for a cure, so he volunteers to let the government do research on him (Dockterman, Par. 3). He was put through complete torture and it changed his appearance. He then gets a suit to cover up his skin from the experiments, he was finally cured from his illness and turned into an invincible lab rat with extraordinary
