Dead Space
“One of the smartest takes on the survival horror genre, Dead Space took the oft-overused theme of zombies and made a really special style of game,” claims Telegraph. IGN believes that the terror of Dead Space comes from the monstrous creatures that are quite difficult to kill. The entire game takes place in a spaceship full of flickering lights, fog, and enclosed spaces.

IGN states that part of what makes the game so scary is “an unrelenting onslaught of chase sequences, cheap yet effective jump scares, and a risky dependence on your camcorder’s night vision to even see where you’re going.” This dependence on the night vision is a weakness that Outlast uses to the fullest extent.
Silent Hill 2
While Telegraph believes that every Silent Hill game is terrifying in its own right, Silent Hill 2 is by far the scariest. Players venture into the fog-covered town at the start of the game and are continuously tormented by Pyramid Head. On top of that, the game is wrapped up at the end with a gut-wrenching revelation.
Resident Evil HD
The first Resident Evil game helped in defining horror games and launched a successful franchise. Resident Evil HD is a remastered version that adds “Crimson Head zombies and the nightmarish tale of Lisa Trevor help make for one of the most important and terrifying horror games around.” It added more layers to the atmosphere and details.
