The human body consists of multiple structures such as organs, blood, tissues, and more importantly, Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide. The concept of an organism can be very perplexing and difficult to grasp all of the information. Science and philosophy tend to hit heads when the topic is covering death, how to consider something a living being, and other topics based on living organisms. Every minute 105 human beings are considered dead, every hour 6,316 are considered dead, and every day 151,600 people are declared dead. These numbers are outrageous if you think about how populated …show more content…
According to the online dictionary, in order to be ?living?, one must have life, and must not be dead. To the average person, this makes complete sense, but to someone in the philosophical study, would read the previous sentence and ask ?But what is ?life or death?? The normal definition is too broad to answer that question so in order to do so, one would have to dig deeper to answer those questions, more than likely with the backup of science. For instance, the human body pumps blood throughout tiny capillaries, arteries, veins, tissues, muscles, etc. All of this blood has to reach each and every organ including the brain. The blood assists in keeping the organs healthy and functioning to do their job. For example, the liver; this organ is an organ that without it, one would be considered dead. The livers functions are to detoxify and remove the substances such as alcohol. This organ also maintains the levels of glucose in the blood to prevent hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar.) If blood does not pass through these organs veins, the toxicity will increase throughout the body and eventually shut down each and every organ in the process. Not only do organs in the human body need blood, but they need Oxygen. When inhalation is taking place, Oxygen is being transferred into the blood and dispersed throughout each organ including the heart and the brain. Without oxygen in the brain, no other organs can function due to the decaying of neuron connections. Once the neuron connections are no longer connected, there cannot be any brain functions happening. Having the slightest amount of brain functioning is a necessity and is also sufficient to being labeled as ?living.? Therefore, one would be considered dead without any brain functioning
