In the story “ The Wife of Bath’s Tale” this is the time of knights and the code of chivalry. The code of chivalry was what the knights were supposed to live by. One of the rules was treat women with respect. So what this knight did broke the chivalry code. The story starts with a knight and he is going down a road and sees a girl walking alone. The knight takes advantage of this girl. People petition to the court to have this knight killed. The queen and some girls from the court asked the king to use his grace and let the the queen deal with him. The king whitch was King Arthur let the queen have control of the sitchwashion. She gave the knight a year and a day to find out “what women want the most”. He searched and searched and no two …show more content…
“ Old lady, by the lord I know indeed that such was mt behest, but for God’s love think of a new request, Take all my goods but, Leave my body free!” So instead of just doing what he said he was gonna do he argued it. Also he says “ Leave my body free!” This is ironic because he raped a girl and took her body without permission. He said “he married her in private on the morrow and all day long stayed hidden like an owl, It was such torture that his wife looked so foul” So he wasn’t treating her right by keeping her and him in the house so no one can see and also didn’t have a public wedding because of looks. So he still only cares about beauty. .Also when they got home he was tossing and turning and just not trying to touch her at all and also called her multiple rude things. “ You’re old, and so abominably plain, so poor to start with, so low-breed to follow; It’s little wonder if I twist and wallow!” This is her explaining why he can’t sleep, The knight is very rude to her not treating women right …show more content…
This Knight only felt a little sorrow . “ On my oath and word of honor, you shall find me both, that is, both fair and faithful as a wife.” so this knight took a lady by force and now he can live happily ever after with his beautiful and faithful wife. When the girl he took by force is probably still scared and will be haunted by that for the rest of her life. “ The knight thought long, and with a piteous groan” This is where the Knight was given the option of a old faithful lady and a young cheating lady. Before he said anything he made a “ piteous groan” Which means out of pity. So this knight was feeling sorry for himself and decided to give up and give her the option that’s the only reason he got a beautiful
