The first similarity the two groups shared was their concept of feudal order and social class. Both the samurai and knights followed a chart called the social pyramid. A social pyramid is not a real thing, but more of a mental picture that shows how much power a group has. It has the least powerful on the bottom, going up from there (Document A). This pyramid's purpose to see who is where in society. Japan and Europe, or samurais and knights, were both fond of this idea. The samurai's of Japan passed honor down through generations on generations of family. Although no legal document says they have to give their lord loyalty, the samurai were more than willing to do anything for them. The samurai pledged his allegiance to be loyal for all his past, current, and future life. The waited on the samurais hand and foot, giving him his whole life, as well as his wife and kids’ (Document B). A similar occurrence happens with English knights. The English knights knelt before a lord and pledged loyalty for life. He gave the lord is life, in return for only a simple piece of land.
