The only possible defense for the Japanese attack comes from a fervent Japanese imperialist. The Pearl Harbor attack on December 7th, 1941 was uncalled for and was not beneficial to Japan, so there is no reason the attack was justified. After World War I, the United States became increasingly isolationist until World War II, when America was forced to become more involved in foreign affairs to support France and Britain against Germany and Japan. Originally, the devastating consequences of World War I including war costs, the failure of the Treaty of Versailles and League of Nations in the US, and the harsh treatment of Germany led to America’s isolationism and neutrality. After pulling out troops from Latin American nations, the US further isolated itself in attempts to avoid any type of war, hoping to evade it using both internal and external methods. However, as World War II began and the Allied countries were suffering, Franklin D Roosevelt played a large role in expanding…

The shocking tragedy of Pearl Harbor lead by the Japanese on December 7th, 1941 shook the United States out of isolation and left Americans panicked, scared, and livid. To help ease the worries of the people, President Franklin D. Roosevelt authorized Executive Order 9066 and declared all Japanese-Americans should be relocated away from the Pacific West coast and Hawaii (Executive Order 9066). It was done as a precaution, because it allowed Americans to have a sense of security and nearly everyone had suspicions towards Japanese-Americans. Though, there were negative drawbacks because it racially discriminated any American of Japanese descent as a traitor to the nation. It was immediately after the attack on Pearl Harbor that the poor treatment against Japanese Americans became justified.…

The U.S. had forced Japan’s hand and it had no choice other than to give up or fight, thus the decisive and fateful decision to attack Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 was made. As Patrick J. Buchanan summed it up in Why Did Japan Attack Us?, “Had FDR met Prince Konoye, there might have been no Pearl Harbor, no Pacific war, no Hiroshima, no Nagasaki, no Korea, no Vietnam.” There were several ways the events following the embargo and leading to the U.S. joining the war, which would devastate Japan more than economically, could have been avoided.
