Are you willing to send out your young son of 18 to the front of a bloody war, when it might be the last time you see them? He didn’t want to go, but he had no choice and he was terrified of this experience. Many men and women take pride in their country, some are willing to sacrifice it all for the guarantee in protection, but many are afraid of what war is capable of doing people. By definition mandatory national service is a strategy used to build up a strong army filled with young men and women who are willing to risks their lives for the country. During any time of war, the United States will take people away from their lives in order to protect our nation's sovereignty. War is not something that should be taken lightly, and people who …show more content…
4). It is amoral because it will put people’s mental health in danger and goes against some of the principles that our country are based on. This in particular seems very unfair for those people are not cut out for it, meaning they struggle even more with the war then with people who actually are willing to fight in. Is it worth the trouble to sacrifice the younger generation, the best alternative is to get people prepared for the war, build up their resistance to the struggles in war. According to Rangel Press Release which explains a legislation that was reintroduced which requires all women to register for the Selective Service, Rangel states that, “If we must go to war, every American should be compelled to stop and think twice about whether it is worth sending our brothers and sisters, and sons and daughters to fight. Currently less than one percent of America's population is unfairly shouldering the burden of war” (Doc. 6). It is going to be required, before they are drafted that these people, to perform up to two years of service in either a war …show more content…
Where is the free will in all of this? By doing mandatory drafting it will always greatly affect the next generation as well. We don’t want the United States to be all-military based where every single man and woman have to fight and have to risk their lives. It seems so unfair for many people could be at a disadvantage mentally or physically. These are some of the reasons why there should be mandatory service. It is financially unstable, cannot be justified as a moral situations to put civilian in, and it could possibly make the army worse because of some of the untrained and unskilled soldier’s. It should be about the quality of soldier’s not the quantity. That is why I am again this idea of mandatory national service and I hope that this puts these ideas into perspective. In conclusion, more experienced fighters should be fighting not kids who have just gotten into or out of college who have no experience, even if there is a national emergency, there are plenty of willing soldier’s to fighter. If they are willing and consent then they can participate in the national service. I see no reason to draft innocent people who aren’t ready to experience the brutal truth that is

As Debs quotes "They have always taught and trained you to believe it to be your patriotic duty to go to war" meaning the government has taught one as a child to serve your country. As you go along in school one develops this mentality that as a citizen of this country one has to fulfill duties that will help the country like fighting in wars. For example, since the start of school a person is required to pledge allegiance to the flag. Students would get in trouble if they were to refuse pledging to the flag. Similar to the draft if one were to resist it, then they would not be for filling their so call duties as a citizen of the United States.…

In the United States of America, once a male turns eighteen years of age, their name is automatically entered into a draft for the war. Document 7 shows how the names are all take at the age of eighteen, and then randomly chosen once people are needed. Although males may or may not be chosen at some point in time, it was unfair that all of the names were put into the draft system. Because of this, a multitude of people were shocked by how unfair the system actually was. Citizens were also astonished at the fact that the United States could be bombed anytime in the near future (Document 7).…

The Draft has been present in American history since the 1940’s when men were drafted during both periods of peacetime and periods of conflict in order to fill the vacancies within the United States Armed Forces that could not be filled through voluntary means. And though the draft was ended when the United States Armed Forces transitioned to an all-volunteer military force the possibility of the US bringing conscription back is overwhelmingly high. Although, it may be possible that in critical conditions social conscription could be beneficial towards the health of a nation, the lack of moral conquest is overwhelming, therefore the draft should not be reinstated for it takes away the freedom of individuals in the ‘land of the free’. The…

Men, who are drafted against their will, do not have the same commitment and passion as those who want to serve their country. In 2012, the Pentagon exceeded its quality standards for active duty recruits for the twenty-seventh year in a row. The military uses the AFQT, or Armed Forces Qualification Test, to determine a recruit’s eligibility for enrollment in the military. Half of all recruits are in the top two of five categories of the AFQT, while only one percent is in the bottom category. Compared to those who voluntarily enlist, only one-third of draft recruits place in the top two categories and twenty-five percent in the bottom.…

When a country enters a war, it needs lots of people to help out. This may be done in many ways but serving in the armed forces is one of the biggest way to help. If the country that is in battle doesn’t have enough troops, they may need to institute a draft to help defend the country. One example is during the Vietnam War when few people were enlisting and the US needed to get more troops, so they began the first draft. The US did this not for a stupid reason but to help protect the country and the people’s freedom.…

The initial Australian public reaction to Australia’s involvement was that majority of the Australian population were disinterested and they paid little attention to a war which involved very few Australian soldiers. As some of the population could not care any less, there was also a large part of Australians who was wary of Australia’s initiation to get involved with Vietnam and Australia’s fear of Communism. When the country’s commitment to South Vietnam increased, there were little negative reactions. When the news of Australia being included in a task force broke out in 1966, the Australian public were not amused.…
