In document 1, it’s shown just how many ethnicities and religions have been affected by ethnic or religious violence. Tensions between ethnicities can continue on for years, partly due to the nationalism of one ethnicity over the other. Nationalism can bring an ethnicity to drive another out, which is exactly the conflict described in document 2. Document 3 talks about how in ethnic violence, ethnicity is the prime reason for targeting people, and thus, ethnic violence is inescapable. Oppressors are against only a certain nationality or religion, because of the fact that they are interfering with the homogeneity of the region and the consistent feeling of nationalism.
Document 4 shows leaders of large-scale ethnic violence. All of these leaders had strong senses of nationalism and pride in their ethnicity. They wanted to create a more homogenous region to instill national pride. In all of these leaders, nationalism was a large influence on their actions.
