Document A is about how J. Hector St. John Crevecoeur was the first to explain American life to the Europeans. Document B is the preamble to the Constitution which shows Jefferson’s views in the way of establishing justice and insuring tranquility within the people. Document C is the Gettysburg Address by Lincoln which represents the Thomas Jefferson’s views, that all men are created through conceived liberty and the birth of freedom in a nation. Document D is a poem by Walt Whitman which shows Jefferson’s views because they have the freedom to chose their job and have the right to life and life, and of course be able to sing and express their feelings through the right to pursue happiness. Document E is a selection from “Slavery a Positive Good,” a speech by John C. Calhoun that has fulfilled the view of freedom from the Declaration of Independence but for only the English or white race. The views are true for the “sections of the Union where slavery does not exist,” but not quite for the sections with slavery and African race. The document does state that the two races are “brought together” although not in the most positive way, but one day will be.
