A monuments size and location can depict an honorable moment of history. The amount of time taken to deliberately portray an honoree, a monument can determine the amount of attention and memory it articulates. In hopes to correctly depict the size of a relic, contractors must create a model building and determine “whether the massive building would overcome… the main purpose of the museum” (Source E). With the correct timing and material a memorial can inspire and honor the memory of an event or individual. If a design is “apolitical, harmonious with the site, and conciliatory” (Source G) it can depict a sense of respect. The design of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. conveys more than one may think. Its design has a sentimental meaning “by linking… two strong symbols… to create a unity between the nation’s past and present” (source G).
