Did you know that the attack on Pearl Harbor was a complete surprise because the US was allies with Japan? The Japanese were unhappy with an embargo, which was placed by the US. That led to Pearl Harbor being attacked and the losses were massive. The attack led to the US joining and eventually ending the war. The Attack on Pearl Harbor can be researched through why it happened, what happened, and the effects of it. Before the United States joined in World War 2 it passed an oil embargo on Japan which was a main reason for the attack on Pearl Harbor. The embargo was greatly affecting their military and they wanted it lifted. Also, Japan felt that they were being embarrassed by the embargo, and were angry (“Why”). Those reasons caused by the embargo, led Japan to risk everything, and launch an attack planned to knock the US out of the Pacific (“Pearl”). The oil embargo passed by the US on Japan was a main reason for the attack on Pearl Harbor. The other main reason for the attack on Pearl Harbor was that the Japanese wanted to conquest many parts of Asia. Japan was going to emerge as the strongest naval power, but the US stood in their way, so they tried to get rid of them (“Why”). First of all, the US had already cracked Japanese radio codes, but failed to interpret them, which led to the complete surprise by the Japanese (“Pearl”). Also, some US Army Privates had noticed the planes on the radar, but debated reporting it to the information center, because they assumed it was a malfunction. When they finally reported it they failed to report there were 50 blips on the radar, because the information center was expecting bomber planes, but only 15 (Burgan 10). Those were some mistakes that led to the destruction
