From 1945 to 1991 the United States and the Soviet Union were at odds with each other. This was called the Cold War, although no actual physical war was fought between the two many believed one would erupt at any moment. The main reason for this tension was because the soviets were communist. Communism is an economic system where the people of the country share ownership of the country's wealth, such as exports and imports. The war lasts for a many years but eventually the original borders are reinstated. About seven years later, on January 1959 Fidel Castro takes over Cuba and turns it into a communist country. The United States did not enjoy this at all especially with Cuba being so close by to America. There was an attempt to over through Fidel Castro on April 1961 dub The bay of pigs, which ended in failure. Castro still rules over Cuba to this day. Little did the United States know the a year later the soviets would be quietly storing nuclear war heads in Cuba. October 15, 1962 is the day they find out what been really going on in Cuba. Eight days later Cuba is quarantined, meaning that any ships carrying weaponry to Cuba will not be allowed to pass. The Soviets dare not to cross in to the quarantined area. This is the most heated part of the Cold War when we were all a hairline away from nuclear destruction. The soviet missiles did become operational but were never used. Soon enough the soviets agreed to remove the war heads. The soviets remove theirs from Cuba and the United States remove theirs from Turkey. There were a lot of close calls during the Cold War. But The
