The Federal Child Abuse Prevention and defines child abuse and neglect as at minimum any act of failure on the part of a parent or caretaker of the child to act and results in death, physical or emotional harm that is serious, exploitation or sexual abuse. Additionally, failure to act or action that causes an imminent risk or serious harm to the child (Child Welfare Information Gateway). Some conditions may include: living with very little or no money at all or as we call it poverty. The relationship between poverty and child mistreatment reveals a high likelihood of poor people to violent mistreat children in the daycares. Poverty causes stress and other related problems to the caretakers who in turn are more susceptible to mistreating the children. As funny as it may sound, food can be a cause of mistreating children in the daycare. Anyone who is financially unstable may have no adequate access to food. They are sometimes limited to the amount of meals they have. As on a daily basis, on an average, a person should have breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If food is a basic need, some people are unable to function properly, will become angry due to being hungry, and will deprive the children of food. This amounts to child abuse. When a child is denied food, their health is compromised and can result in serious harm. Poverty also makes people less sensitive to the health of the child. This exposes the children to risk because the people who are given the responsibility to care for children of other people are not sensitive to issues as slight sickness which they may treat casually. Stress can lead to an individual suffering depression which may disable the effect of their caretaking capabilities (Conte). As children are left in a caregivers care they are failed to be cared for properly when the caregiver is more focused on their emotional stress. This results in neglect and can cause serious harm to the child. A caregiver may have a history of abuse; violence; mental health problems; abusing children or being abused as children can be a cause of child neglect and abuse by both the parent and the care giver (Conte). Studies show that people who experience a lot of violence are more likely to mistreat others. Its easier to mistreat children because depending on the age, they are unable to defend themselves. In certain occasions, caregivers who abuse or neglect children do so as a way to revenge for what they went through in their childhood.
