Daybook Entry Analysis

Improved Essays
The daybook entries that we wrote throughout the semester were refreshing and thought provoking activities. They forced me to think about my thought process and how I function as a person. The activities also made me reflect on my goals as a person, and how UWRT 1103 was benefiting my progression toward them. Some of the entries were very random questions that had nothing to do with the current class topic, these were by far my favorite writings. My two favorite daybook questions were, what do you wonder about, and give your definition of success? These questions made me think hard about my thoughts, and furthermore how I could organize my thoughts to better understand myself. The experience I had for writing the five pieces I chose varied

In completing the course English 112 at Robeson Community College, I have found myself with a new found understanding how to write various genres, and do them well. Newly, I have experienced the handling of opinion writing, research writing, and direct analyzation writing. These concepts greatly helped me achieve the knowledge of love in writing. This class had an overall positive affect on the individual I now am, and created a way in which I read an assignment, sit down, and promptly beginning work. In this class, aspects such as research, analyzation, and procrastination hit the closest to who I was before enrolling and completing this course.…

Although 'The Yellow Wallpaper” and “A Great Day” may not be considered 'contemporary' they still alert the reader to social problems that are still relevant in today’s modern world. In 'The Yellow Wallpaper' (Charlotte Perkins Gilman) Jane faces the social problem of what it feels like to not meet her society’s expectations of femininity. In “A Great Day” Fred faces the social problem of what it feels like, again to not meet the expectations of masculinity in his society.…

The First Day by Edward P. Jones is a story about a young girl that is about to go to her first day of kindergarten. The story goes into detail about how the mother perfected her daughter’s clothes and hair, along with going to extreme lengths to get her to school. It is evident after reading that the family lives a poverty stricken life and the reason why the character’s mother was so determined to get her daughter to school is to give her a better life than the one she had as a child. The reader knows the mother didn’t get an education when she asks another woman for help filling out a form because she can’t read or write, it is also evident in the way that she talks. In the first sentence the girl states, “long before I learned to be ashamed of my mother” (page 1), this combined with the fact that at the end of the story the mother didn’t play their game with the girl shows that the mother gave her daughter up to this higher class of society which eventually caused the girl to be ashamed of her mom.…

Throughout the first semester of College Composition, I wrestled with three essays, all differing in format and content. The first was a narrative that reflected our educational experience. After this came an analysis of a visual text, followed by a research paper. The narrative was the easiest to write; however, I acquired important skills for writing the other two, which were in a less familiar format. With the three essays, I learned about my own writing skills and habits concerning development and critical thinking, time management, and organization.…

Introduction Looking back at my essays from my first semester in Composition I, I can definitely see that I have improved tremendously. My learning from my Composition II was not so much about learning concepts, but it was more about improving what I already learned last semester, and adding onto it. Compared to last semester, my learning this semester came from paying attention to details, following the rules, and adapting to a new teaching style. While last semester, my learning came from new concepts like ethos, pathos, logos and knowing what they are and how they work.…

Writing Journal (Morning Pages) I chose morning pages as one of my three pieces for Seasaw because it was something that I had to do at least three times a week for several weeks and it made me appreciate how important writing is. I haven’t written in a journal in such a long time since everything I need to write down is through my computer, phone, or if I write something on the board in class. This is a great strategy to bring into the classroom because it allows students to write about anything they want, with no rules! This helped me teach writing in my 3rd grade class because I had students starting to write in the morning versus the afternoon (mainly because I had to do it) and they were able to write about anything that they wanted. Students seemed to like this idea because they didn’t have to write on a particular topic, like they were used to, but others had no clue what to write about so I had to write suggestions on the board that students could use as a guide.…

At the beginning of the semester, I viewed myself as a creative writer. After attending this class I realized that there is a lot more that goes into writing an essay, or a research paper, than just creativity alone. I have learned that it is very important to be aware of my strengths and weaknesses in my writing. Taking this class has helped me understand the strengths and weaknesses in my writing skills, and it has given me the opportunity to strengthen the areas in which I was weak. An example of this is that I have become aware of my grammar and spelling errors as the semester progressed.…

English Composition I taught me a lot about myself, including how to be a better college student, through the process of writing. At the beginning of the year, I was not very excited about having to write argumentative papers. This is because I did not care enough about the assigned topics to have an opinion. But, I did learn a lot that I would not have known otherwise from having to research information about the topics I chose to write about. For example, in paper #2, I wrote about the niqab and how I believe that it is oppressive to women.…
