During the time of admission, when I look at the patient history, I found type two diabetes mellitus patient who had bariatric surgery before. In this case, the issue is obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus. From that time, I am interested in doing research about what is bariatric surgery and how effective it is compared to other non-surgical treatment. As a nurse, it is important to do evidence based research in nursing practice because it helps to gain knowledge about a specific issue, ensure patient safety and provide quality of care to the patient. The title of my article is based on the effect of Bariatric Surgery versus medical treatment on type 2 diabetes patients with body mass index lower than 35. The main aim of this article is to figure out the effects of bariatric surgery and medical treatment between type 2 diabetes and overweight patient. The populations of type 2 diabetes are growing higher and it is the main causes of the heart diseases. My father was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and the way it affected him sparked my interest in medicine. At GCSE level, I learnt that diabetes results when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin to maintain a normal blood glucose level. Further interest led me to learn that the most common drug used is metformin, reducing the amount of glucose released. Currently the only way to delay/prevent diabetes in people who may have genetic predispositions to it is by maintaining a healthy weight. Recently, a study in Diabetologia showed that obese people with prediabetes could improve their metabolic health, by avoiding AGE products.…

Bariatric surgery is inviting and seems safe; the advertisements and success stories seem to sell it to the people that are ashamed of their obesity. People are unable to pass up the opportunity of having the body they are promised, but the eye can be deceiving and the body that people see on magazines and in success stories does not show the complications going on inside the body. This procedure can be extremely risky and is not a surgery designed for everyone looking to lose a lot of weight. Some people have died from the procedure, which is always something that the patient knows before opting to have the operation. For some people, that risk still gives them better odds than if they continue their current lifestyle. There are plenty of people who have had this surgery who have been able to lose a large amount of weight and begin the transition to a healthier life. I think that education about healthy diet and exercise should be implemented even more for people who have bariatric surgery because they must understand that this isn’t another “miracle” solution.…
