Bravery, by definition, means “having or showing courage.” In the stories A Day on the Slopes by Jaclyn Einis and Amra and the Skateboard, which is by an unknown author, bravery is demonstrated when the main characters go against degrading thoughts and by their overall reaction to the experience afterwards. Bravery is a common theme within the stories.
A Day on the Slopes’ character Bobby and Amra and the Skateboard’s character Amra are similar in that they ignore negative thoughts and try something new. Even though Bobby’s conflict is internal and Amra’s conflict was external, the conflict was very similar. The group of high school boys saying Amra was, “just a kid” and judging her for being a girl can be easily connected to where Einis writes,
