The first topic that shares either a similarity and difference for both holidays is the variety and types of food that are being offered and handed out. For the holiday of Halloween I feel it is taken less seriously than Day of the Dead due to it having no religious meaning or connections. However, Halloween does still have a lot of reasons for celebrating. The reason and background of Halloween has to do with the fact that it connects with the day of All Hallows Eve, which is said to be when spirits of the dead come out and roam the streets, and this is the reason that children dress up, to disguise themselves from the evil spirits. For the holiday of Day of the Dead, it gets very complicated. This holidays dates all the way back to Aztec customs where several rituals were held to acknowledge their dead ancestors and honor their lives. By doing this, the participants in the holiday set up an altar with different offerings for their relatives such as candy skulls(La Calavera) with candles(Las Velas) and a type of incense called El Copal, lit on the altar. Families get so involved with this holiday that the night of, they will feast on dinner, and later clean the tombstones of the dead family members. As you can see, Day of the Dead is taken way more seriously in a religious way than Halloween.
Therefore, Day of the Dead and Halloween are both very similar but different holidays. Although, based on most of the information and background knowledge I know about both holidays I believe they are more
