Day of the dead is celebrated in central and southern during the chilly days of November 1 and 2. Its all souls and all saints day the indigenous people have combined this with their own ancient beliefs of honoring their deceased loved ones. They believe that the gates of heaven open at mid night on October 31, and deceased children. On November 2, the spirits of adults come down to enjoy the festivities that are prepared for them.

Day of the dead is a very expensive holiday for these self-sufficient, rural based indigenous families. Many spend over two months income to honor their dead relatives. On November 2nd people head down to the cemetery to clean the grave stones, play cards listen to the village band and reminisce about their loved
