In 1966 the first take on “Strawberry Fields Forever,” was released while “A Day in the Life” could first be heard on the Sgt. Peppers album. Even though “Strawberry Fields Forever” was released at the end of 1966, the album Magical Mystery Tour debuted in 1967 about six months after Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band was released. As Alan Pollack points out, looking back in retrospect at The Beatles old albums after Sgt. Peppers and Magical Mystery Tour were released, there were definitely songs that broached the theme of exploring existence and the full spectrum of human emotion. It is seriously an experience to listen to that song with the building up to the alarm clock before McCartney begins singing and the stretched out ending. I don’t think my dad ever liked this period’s music as much because it style wise it is so different from their other albums even though earlier albums do explore that style as well, but he understood as most do that the songs that came out of Sgt. Peppers and Magical Mystery Tour are an integral part of The Beatles. Some also like to be shady about how The Beatles were experimenting with acid and say the lyrics shouldn’t be thought about too much, but acid is known for how much people explore themselves and the world when on it so it would seem to me the works that came out of this period are some of The Beatles most honest work. John himself even said he regretted not exploring that style further since The Beatles did kind of go back to earlier styles in later albums. The themes and lyrics in 1966-1967 are distinct because it was nothing like any other bands had done before, nothing quite like what The Beatles themselves had done before, and none of their songs in the future were quite like what they had done in
