While working at the Day Center, I observed an elderly woman sitting all alone with a mesh bag under her chair packed with food. This struck me as unusual because people her age are typically in a nursing home, and receiving Social Security benefits to help meet their needs. After a while my curiosity got the best of me and I turned to Forrest and asked “who is the older lady over there with the food bag?” He said that her name is Imogene, and she has been a long time visitor of the Day Center. He went on to explain that “She has been here for years, and she either has no family or they have disowned her. The Center put her in long term housing but she doesn’t stay there because she doesn’t know how to live without being at the center.” This
