Day Care Observation

The UCF Creative School for Children sits well out of the way of UCF’s normally hustle and bustle. This was the first thing I took notice to, as the selected area in which the daycare actually is, is very important to its purpose. The primary goal of the daycare is to ensure the safety of younger children present at any time, but it is also a place of learning, I was informed, that the daycare takes the children outside for play time, so that they can get introduced to a world outside of just the simple daycare. This was explained to me in a brief introduction to the caretakers present in the toddler room, as they wished for me to select the place I felt most comfortable taking notes. However, the time the toddlers would be allowed outside was not until 10:00 AM, and so I instead opted just to …show more content…
Again I took note of the location of the building, it was far from the main arteries of the campus, which was a good things as it was so close to the street, yet did not have to deal with passing cars disrupting the children inside. Overall, during this period of the observation the two children did very little. Child A, as I noted was a bit more concise in his actions, for the first fifteen minutes I only noticed him playing with a truck he rolled to the ground. Child B, on the other hand, fit my early assumptions of what a typical toddler would be doing; what with high pitched yelps of broken words and rambunctious toddling around the play area. The two caretakers in the room towards the end of the first fifteen minutes mostly just kept an eye on the kids as they played. The most notable interaction between the two toddlers in this first fifteen minutes came towards the end of my observation; Child A was playing with a toy and playful slamming it against the ground when Child B came over and took the toy and proceeded to bang it on the

As I made my way into Vista Adult Day Care in Maywood California, it was a narrow space for the large amount of people that were inside. As I waited for the interview with the director of this program, Eugenio Venegas, I observed how joyous people looked. At nine in the morning, the seniors in the center were very active doing their weekly swap meet gathering. On this day, the people in this program are allowed to bring anything they wish to sell among themselves, it ranged from clothes, blankets and objects. Those who wouldn’t bring anything to sell could either shop if they wish to do so, or engage in other activities such as eating, playing card games and meet up with the nurse to take their blood pressure.…

Observation: The YMCA daycare program is very different from Hope. I went back and forth between the two classrooms with children from ages 2 to 4 and I even spent a bit of time in the infant room. I learned more about the different temperaments of the children and how to address them. In addition, I also saw how children three to four years of age did not know how to say what they wanted so they would hit and throw things. I would have to say the biggest thing that I learned today was figuring how to get a positive behavior and not to reinforce a negative behavior.…

Unfortunately both of these can be found in most classrooms. It is typical for young children to experience conflict over toys, friends, space, and not comprehending the material which was taught. The classroom observed had its fair share of conflicts and a few challenging behaviors. Challenging Behavior This particular class has morning work to complete as the educator does what she needs to do before the day really begins.…

There are two types of care for infants and toddlers. One is the Infant and Toddlers Child Care, and the other is Licensed Family Child Care Home. Both are very different regardless these take cares of children. These do not have the same regulations and benefits from the government. The requirements are not the same because the Child Care has more strict regulation by the government than the family child care.…

While working at the Day Center, I observed an elderly woman sitting all alone with a mesh bag under her chair packed with food. This struck me as unusual because people her age are typically in a nursing home, and receiving Social Security benefits to help meet their needs. After a while my curiosity got the best of me and I turned to Forrest and asked “who is the older lady over there with the food bag?” He said that her name is Imogene, and she has been a long time visitor of the Day Center. He went on to explain that “She has been here for years, and she either has no family or they have disowned her.…

The setting of my 2nd focus child was a Little Bucs in the preschool room (Inventors) in the classroom, but we did visit the ETSU library during my first observation. They are 48 months-60 months. I observed a 48 month old, male. I will refer to the student I observed as "P." I observed from 10:00-11:30 both sessions. The classroom was reasonably big, but the floor was opened with toys and an upstairs area where the students can go and hang up there.…

First week of my fieldwork experience took place at Magik adult daycare. Adult day care centers, are facilities where frail seniors and disabled adults can go during the day from Monday to Friday if they cannot, or do not wish to be home alone. This type of services is regulated as discretion of each state, although the National Adult Day Services Association (NADSA) offers some overall guidelines in its Standards and Guidelines for Adult Day Care ( Robinson, n.d.). The centers are one way for the elderly or disabled to avoid or delay entering a nursing home and to give family members who care for them a chance to continue working at their jobs or have some respite during the day ( Robinson, n.d.).…

I feel it is important to note that these programs are very new and have not been established for long, so although a lot of their accommodations for children do not meet the Infant/Toddler Environment Rating Scale, at least when I observed, it is understandable why. However, the infant and toddler rooms had great outdoor space for gross motor play and is located by a nature trail surrounded by trees and other natural life. I felt this influenced the children to be more explorative, and the teachers did a great job pointing out educational instances while they experienced them…

For the younger kids, the only aspect I can really go into is that of the staff/child interaction. The staff only conversed with the younger of the two, the three year old. But in those interactions, they didn’t follow the ideas that we put forth in the classroom. In the example I gave earlier, of the child who went outside and climbed on and across the structures, the teacher didn’t allow the child to go across without holding her hand for safety. As we learned in class, children likely wont engage in a play that they feel is too risky and they don’t believe they will succeed in (Susan Roscigno).…

I was also surprised by the toddler and preschooler’s ability to imitate adult actions. During the first focus child observation, L picked up a broom and walked around the room, brushing the floor with the broom. She also repeatedly said, “Sweeping,” while brushing the floor with the broom. The preschooler I observed during the third multi-age observation, pretended like he was baking a cake and picked up a spatula, shouting, “Okay, I got a spatula!” One of the greatest challenges I faced…
