Dawn Mitchell Research Paper

It takes hard work, perseverance, a positive attitude, and bravery to get where Dawn Mitchell, the only full-time female sports reporter in the state of Minnesota, is today. Growing up with four brothers in Massachusetts taught Dawn the toughness, sports knowledge, and attitude that allows her to compete in a male-dominated industry today. Dawn’s path to being named Minnesota Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association was not easy by any means. Beginning as a meaningless behind-the-scenes worker at a Boston media station, Dawn did anything she could just to get her foot in the door or create a connection that would help her in the future. Among the downfalls of the occupation include little to no social life and the potential of public embarrassment. Dawn noted more than once that her social life essentially goes into hibernation during football season, when she is busy covering sports twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week. Such demanding occupations require trade-offs and for Dawn, she experiences them in a very real way whenever her friends or family wants to do basically anything with her. The idea of being embarrassed in front of many eyes is not appealing to many people, but is something that Dawn has to be aware of any time she is in front of the camera or interviewing an athlete. Especially being a girl, Dawn faces many difficulties with people already assuming that she does not deserve to be where she is, so she has to be on top of her game at all times to prove her validity as an elite sportscaster. I find it impressive that Dawn is able to deal with all of the adversities of being a sportscaster, especially a female sportscaster. Her persistency and commitment to excellence in her field is something that I truly admire in her and are traits that I hope people will associate with me in the
