Davson-Daniel Model Lab Report

Evidence for and against the Davson- Danielli model of membrane structure The plasma membrane is thin and has double layers. The plasma membrane has two dark lines and a lighter central region. The two dark lines suggests the presence of the protein on either side. The lighter central region suggests the presence of phospholipids. The dark grainy appearance could be the ribosomes. Ribosomes appear as dark granules in the cytoplasm. Measured by rule: approximately 1 mm actual size 10 nm (image size)/(actual size)=
Change 1 mm to nanometres. 1mm=1000000 nm

Data based questions a. Nuclear pores.
b. The pores transport molecules between nucleus and cytoplasm. This is the outer nuclear membrane because the phosphate heads (dark line) are visible and they are the ones which face water on either sides.

The second and third ones are in the left top corner next to each other. There is the presence of the Golgi apparatus. The Golgi apparatus is found in the cytoplasm (they are about two of them). The Golgi apparatus is responsible for making the proteins which are later transported by vesicles to the plasma membrane. There are also ribosomes present. The ribosomes synthesize protein, releasing them to work in the cytoplasm as enzymes or in other ways.

Lysosomes are small organelles that break down food particles and worn-out cell parts. Most of the cell’s energy is produced in the mitochondria. Cytoplasm is gel-like fluid which many of the organelles are found. Ribosomes function as factories to produce proteins which can either be attached to the endoplasmic reticulum or float in the cytoplasm. The golgi apparatus receives materials from the endoplasmic reticulum and send them to other parts of the cell…

It is composed of nucleic acid and special proteins. Ribosomes are found floating freely in the cytoplasm and some bound to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER).The central function of ribosomes is that they arrange twenty amino acids into particular strands. These strands are turned into a protein molecule. Ribosomes act as building blocks of protein which are essential for human body growth. Ribosome arranges and prepare amino acids so that the rest of the body can use it to grow and function.…

The nucleus is the largest of all the organelles in an animal cell, it is known as the control centre. The structure of the nucleus contains a nuclear membrane, chromosomes, nucleolus and a cytoplasm. The nucleus is a sphere shaped organelle which is found in eukaryotic cells. This organelle does most of the functions throughout the animal cell. It is responsible for most of the genetic material, which is DNA and RNA.…

The actual membrane is created up of phospholipids which naturally form a bilayer, these phospholipids have a head that are hydrophilic and two fatty acid tails that are hydrophobic, and this allows water molecules to pass between the phospholipid molecules by osmosis and allowed self-orientating properties. It’s more than just a passive envelope; it is a dynamic structure that is actively involved in cellular activities such as cell signalling, cell-cell recognition and of course hydration. Another process important in cells is active and passive transport, which is the biological process that moves oxygen, water and nutrients into cells and remove its waste products. The difference between them is that active transport requires chemical energy as it is the movement of those chemicals from areas of lower concentration to areas of higher concentration while on the other hand passive transport requires no energy as it is the transportation of biochemical from areas of high concentration to low concentrations. In the report, active transport is the one which will be demonstrated as it is the transportation of low-to-high concentration.…

These go about as a boundary to keep DNA inside the core where interpretation happens. The RNA produced amid interpretation is transported out through atomic pores. Numerous proteins are integrated at the Endoplasmic reticulum. The ribosomes tie to the ER (a film bound organelle) and make an interpretation of the RNA message into protein that either navigates the layer (like a protein channel does) or is inside the ER in a vesicle (for solvent proteins that are emitted by the cell by exocytosis... like development elements and hormone proteins) (Meiner,…

Part 1 DB 2 “The plasma membrane allows fluids or gases to pass or diffuse through to specific molecules. It allows nutrients and other vital elements to enter the cell and waste materials to leave the cell. Oxygen, water, and carbon dioxide pass freely across the membrane, but amino acids and sugars are carefully regulated (University, 2015).” When thinking of an analogy for plasma membrane, what comes to mind it the stomach and digestion of food and how it reacts to food, filter foods, and separates food and nutrients. For instance, the digestive tract begins in the mouth.…

Microfilaments look like thin solid rods that have a structural function. The microtubules carry functions such as transportation of granules, vesicles or organelles such as mitochondria as well as offering structural support to the cell. The mitochondria are essential organelles in all cells because it is a powerhouse for energy used in all cellular functions. In liver cells, they have numerous mitochondria because of the metabolic activities that are carried out within the cell. The mitochondria resemble beans with an oblong shape, and they are found in the cytoplasm.…

Introduction The cell membrane provides a boundary between the intracellular environment and the extracellular environment. The membrane is selectively permeable only allowing some substances to pass through while some can’t. The cell membrane consists of two phospholipid bilayers.
