The percentages of children and adults who are obese in the United States has more than tripled since the 1970s. Obesity is defined as having excess body fat, muscle, bone, water, or a combination of these factors. Obesity is generating bad health problems to our society. Different organization are working together to bring awareness and make the number of people obese to go down.

More Children and Adult are Overweight
Obesity is the condition of being grossly fat or overweight. Today, obesity in the United States had grown rapidly. Adults and children are both equally suffering from being overweight. The article, “Health Buzz: One-Third of the World Is Overweight or Obese, the global waistline is expanding” by David Oliver talks about the obesity in our country and how the number of people being overweight are rising drastically. The author focuses on the facts of why this is happening and what we could do to control it. The author also focuses on the consequences of obesity globally and how to help those who are overweight. Obesity is a serious chronic disease that can have a negative effect on many systems in our body. People who are overweight or obese have a much greater risk of developing serious conditions including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, bone and joint disease. …show more content…
The U.S. is home to the most obese adults with the total of 79.4 million and China has the most obese children 15.3 million according to Oliver. Their weight is causing them to endure health problems. The causes of obesity are complex, but some reasons include genetics and environmental lifestyle. High blood pressure is one of the major consequences of being overweight. Being overweight increases the workload of the heart because it must pump more blood through additional blood veins.
