David Maiar's Credibility

According to David Maister, a professional is an expert who cares for its client and wants to be helpful in solving its client’s business problems. Maister then goes on to say, “It is not enough for a consultant to be right: An advisor’s job is to be helpful. We must not only be smart, we must be diplomatic, sensitive and gentle—and behave in such a way that we are trusted!”

The ultimate aim of every professional consultant or a professional consulting firm is to become a trusted advisor to their clients. According to David Maister’s trust equation (Diagram 1), credibility is clearly a direct factor for achieving that trust, but in my opinion, both expertise and experience play a key role in achieving that credibility.
