“Hope” By David T. Hilbun

David T. Hilbun uses figurative language in his poem “Hope” to communicate how important not giving up even in the worst situations, and how even the littlest things can thrive after the worst of disasters happen. In addition, the author David T. Hilbun uses imagery and repetition to convey the message to the readers.

Hope” is a poem that communicates the deep sadness that impacted the victims during hurricane Katrina. In particular, the author conveys this in line such as “outside was a scene of total destruction. Their house was gone, a few planks in their place” or “The school was wrecked, the remains of an airliner strewn all over the football
