David Georger was just getting out of the subway at 8:55 am on September 11, 2001. He was heading towards the American Express Tower just two blocks away from the Twin Towers. Dave remembers feeling like they was some type of oil in the air as if the air felt heavier than usual. When Dave arrived at his office on the 21st floor of the Amex Tower, he received a call from his newlywed wife Murph. Murph told Dave that a plane had just hit the North Tower in the World Trade Center. His first reaction was that it was a sightseeing plane and Dave hoped no one was hurt. About 15 minutes later the second plane hit. The sound of the second plane was a huge explosion and the building shook. Through the windows of Dave’s office, he could see hundreds …show more content…
Everybody thought that the next target would be the stock exchange on Wall Street. The Amex tower was right across the street from the stock exchange. Dave knew the security guards fairly well and convinced them to keep the elevators open for his team. They were one of the last people who were able to take the elevator down to the lobby. When Dave got down to the lobby it was just him and his 6 direct reports. They were in the lobby discussing their plans when there was a huge explosion that shook the whole 50 story building. They thought that there was the bomb going off across the street. They decided that what they would do was get down to the east river. They thought that there was going to be a bomb to go off in wall street. It sounds crazy, but the idea was that if anything else happens, they could just jump in the …show more content…
When they were looking out of the windows they couldn’t see anything but black smoke. Once in awhile they would see white faces, arms, and hands banging and slamming against the door. At first nobody knew what was happening to the windows. But slowly people found out that there were people still trapped on the street trying to get into the building. People were slamming their bodies against the doors trying to break the glass. Dave says that the most scaring and scary experience was seeing the ghostly faces banging against the doors in the black smoke. It’s important to note, that nobody knew what the smoke cloud was from. The smoke cloud was from the first tower that was hit. But everybody thought that it was a bomb that went off in the stock exchange. Nobody really believed that the towers had collapsed. Even though the rest of the world knew what had happened people that were only two blocks away had no clue. Dave worked in a bank building. So security made a plan and started to command people to go to the vault. Dave was one of the many workers who were herded down to the bank
