In the article This is Water by David Foster Wallace he talks about our daily lives, as he says, “day in and day out”. He also explains how we as humans think selfishly without actually taking the time out to rethink situations we come in contact with everyday. Not that we do this on purpose, it’s that we are programmed this way. Learning how to think around the annoying, irritating, and foolish circumstances in life is one way to control what we think and how we feel. I did not realize how much I think about my immediate feelings, wants, and needs instead of others and how they could have a much more complicated, stressed or busy life.
Sadly, I had thoughts of this article to be boring, life- long lasting, and confusing but it’s interesting, detailed, funny and simple. I agree with Wallace s’ article. He states that in adult life we have to be “well adjusted”. What he means is adjusting our ways of thinking, for example: You know when Sally or Steve is walking across the street and they are taking their sweet lazy old time? We tend to feel frustrated or may even yell out of the window to tell them to hurry up. You have to live before you die, living meaning enjoying life no matter what gets in the way and making the best of both worlds. We all have lives we need to live for ourselves and not to live them through pity and complaining all of the time. Living without the feeling of, “Oh my gosh, I wish this person would hurry up” or” I just got off of work and there is this lady in front of the gas pump on the phone, not even pumping gas!” should be a moment to relax and think of what you are having for dinner
