My name is Ashley Dupin and I chose to do my presentation on my all time favorite musician, David Bowie. He was a man of incredible talents and was born January 8th 1947. He is a singer specifically in the genres of art rock, glam rock, pop, electronic, and experimental. He is a song writer of roughly 270 songs, and an actor from the well-known movie Labyrinth. One of my all time favorite childhood movies.
David Bowie’s real name is David Robert Jones, he was born in London, England. He first officially started practicing his musical talents at the age of 13, when he called Ronnie Ross for saxophone lessons. He was inspired by his older brother Terry, who introduced him to the world of rock. Later Terry would commit suicide due to life struggles and his mental illness, inspiring Bowie's song, “Jump They Say”. Bowie studied music, art, and design before starting his official career in music in 1963. Bowie would join a few bands including, Kon Rads, King Bees, the Mannish Boys and Davy Jones and the Lower Third, before officially becoming Bowie. He decided to change his artist name to David Bowie to avoid confusion with another band, Davy Jones and the Monkees. David Bowie was inspired to write the song as a parody of Sinatra’s, “My Way” when he had a couple years earlier wrote lyrics to the same music from “My Way” used from a1967 French song, "Comme d'habitude’’. Bowie made sure to give a special mention of his pianist Wakeman and guitarist Mick Ronson for improving the song beyond his talents. Life On Mars is a very unique song, with very unique lyrics.
